Canterbury Glen

About the Area

Canterbury Glen is located in Mt. Washington, Ky and was incorporated in 1833. Population of 9117 and only 8 miles to I 265. The town started to become colonized in the late 1700's and was called Hell's Kitchen. In 1822 there was a 50 acre tract divided into 82 lots to establish a town called Mt. Vernon. When they applied for a post office they were told there was already a Mt. Vernon therefore the name became Mt. Washington. The site is located less than a mile from the center of town but is surrounded by large farms. The city is one of several cities surrounding Louisville that have experienced sharp rise in population in the past decade becoming a commuter town. Mt. Washington is located at what was once the crossroads of two stage routes -- the crossraods of Hwy 150 and Hwy 44. Canterbury Glen is also located 9 miles from Shepherdsville and I 65 with northern and southern routes. A short commute to either Louisville or Elizabethtown.
